Unless you’re a die-hard Ford fan, few cars are cooler than the souped up 1976 Holden Torana LX SS.
“Our new MetraScan 3D optical CMM scanner made light work of digitising the vehicle’s suspension system,” says Craig Russell, director at 3D Hub.
He says 3D scanning is the best way to accurately capture the shape and design of an object. This scanner is the fastest and most accurate 3D scanner and portable coordinate-measuring machine (CMM) for shop floor environments.
“We scanned the suspension system in its free and compressed states. All the suspension was chromed with a mirror finish. This normally makes an object difficult to scan as the laser needs to reflect back to the scanner in a specific manner. However, our MetraScan 3D optical CMM scanner handled this challenge effortlessly which was impressive. With the scan data we created a detailed report dimensioning the suspension points for Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association (LVVTA) certification.”
