Why the BLACK Elite is the industry reference
Accuracy that holds up anywhere
Dynamic referencing means the scanner and the part can both move during measurement and the result stays accurate - regardless of setup quality, vibration or operator experience.
ISO 17025 accredited calibration, on VDI/VDE 2634 part 3 and ISO 10360 acceptance bases.
Part and scanner move freely during measurement without losing accuracy.
Fine features resolve directly in the scan at 0.025 mm resolution.
Volumetric accuracy tightens on larger parts without extra equipment.

A metrology lab that fits in a suitcase
The BLACK Elite is a standalone device - no tripod, no external tracker, no rigid setup. Unpack it and you're measuring in under two minutes, wherever the part happens to be.
No tripod or external tracking device required.
Light enough for all-day handheld use.
From the case to capturing data in under two minutes.
200 to 450 mm stand-off for easy capture around real parts.
Third-generation and thousands of units strong
Now in its third generation, the HandySCAN 3D platform is the reference point other handheld scanners are measured against.

Applications
What teams use it for

Product development
Capture existing parts and prototypes as reference geometry for new designs.

Reverse engineering
Turn legacy and one-off components into clean CAD, ready for manufacture.

Quality control
Dimensional inspection and first-article checks with traceable accuracy.

Creaform.OS runs the show
The BLACK Elite ships with Creaform.OS, the operating software behind the whole FARO | CREAFORM range. Acquisition, live mesh and cleanup happen in one place, so what leaves the scanner is already usable.

HandySCAN 3D EVO Series
Metrology-grade 3D scanner optimised for efficiency.

The HandySCAN 3D EVO Series pairs certified metrology-grade accuracy with a built-in touchscreen, augmented reality and wireless scanning - so inspection work moves faster from first scan to final report.

HandySCAN 3D MAX Series
3D measurement efficiency, scaled for large parts.

The HandySCAN 3D MAX Series takes the EVO platform's on-tool display, wireless capture and ease of use, and scales it to the parts a standard handheld volume can't cover - buckets, frames, vessels and full assemblies.

HandySCAN 3D PRO Series
Proven and trusted professional-grade 3D scanners.

The HandySCAN 3D PRO Series delivers the proven HandySCAN platform at its best value point - 0.030 mm accuracy, fine detail, and the fastest path from physical part to usable CAD.

MetraSCAN 3D
Total inspection flexibility, built on ISO-certified accuracy.

MetraSCAN 3D pairs a handheld scanner with the C-Track optical tracker, so parts are measured where they're made - at CMM-level accuracy, unaffected by vibration, movement or workshop conditions.

Go!SCAN 3D
White light portable 3D scanner.

The Go!SCAN SPARK is the point-and-shoot of the FARO | CREAFORM range - full-colour white light scanning with no setup, no targets on most parts, and results in minutes rather than hours.

Add-ons
Round out the kit

MaxSHOT 3D
Optical coordinate measuring for large parts. Photogrammetry that tightens volumetric accuracy on big scans.

AESUB scanning spray
Sublimating spray for the surfaces that resist scanning. It disappears on its own, with no cleanup.
Services and support
Backed locally, not from a call centre
3D scanning services
Need parts scanned rather than a scanner? We scan NZ-wide, on site.
3D scanner hire
Short-term hire with setup guidance and local backup.
Support, maintenance and calibration
Technical helpline, maintenance, calibration, warranty renewals and loaner units, handled from Hamilton.

Frequently asked questions
How does the BLACK Elite compare with the EVO Series?
Both are metrology-grade at comparable accuracy. The BLACK Elite is the proven third-generation platform with a conventional laptop-driven workflow; the EVO Series adds an on-tool touchscreen, augmented reality and wireless scanning, with higher measurement rates. If you're choosing between them, we'll demo both against your parts.
Do I need targets or spray to scan?
Positioning targets give the scanner its self-positioning ability, which is what keeps hand-held measurement accurate. Most surfaces scan without coating; for the stubborn ones a sublimating spray like AESUB does the job and disappears on its own.
What software is included?
Creaform.OS handles acquisition end to end and exports to the tools engineering teams already use, including PolyWorks, Geomagic, SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, NX, Creo and Inventor. FARO | CREAFORM Inspection and Scan-to-CAD modules are available when you want one integrated workflow.
How steep is the learning curve?
Short. Dynamic referencing forgives imperfect technique, results don't depend on operator experience, and Professional CAD Systems provides local onboarding and support with every system we supply.
Can I try one before buying?
Yes. We work evaluation-first: tell us about your parts and tolerances and we'll arrange a demonstration or evaluation, and short-term hire is available if you want to prove the workflow on your own jobs first.
