Skimp simplifying a detailed model for SketchUp
Trimble

Skimp

Import and simplify models in SketchUp, preserving materials and hierarchy.

Import GLB/glTF (including Draco-compressed), USD, SKP, FBX, OBJ, STL, DAE, 3DS, PLY or VRML into SketchUp, with preview, scale and orientation controls and fewer polygons.

Requires SketchUp Pro 2020 or newer, including SketchUp 2027. PC and Mac.

Preserve hierarchy, materials, UVs and normals while simplifying imported or existing SketchUp geometry.

Import the heavy stuff

Ten formats in - GLB/glTF, USD, SKP, FBX, OBJ, STL, DAE, 3DS, PLY, VRML - with very fast import even on dense scans and downloaded assets.

Preview before you commit

See the model, set scale and orientation, and choose the simplification level before anything lands in your file - no more import-inspect-undo loops.

Reduce polygon counts

Reduce polygons while preserving shape, materials, UVs, normals and hierarchy.

Fix the model you already have

Skimp existing groups and components in place - rescue a slow model by thinning its heaviest parts, one selection at a time.

Buy outright or subscribe

The licence and the subscription are the same tool. The perpetual licence is a one-time purchase that never expires, with future upgrades included. The annual subscription costs less up front, suits a single project or an operating-expense budget, and renews each year until you cancel it from your account.

Skimp FAQs

Licence or subscription - which should I buy?

Same tool either way. The perpetual licence costs more once and never expires; the subscription spreads a lower cost annually. Long-term daily users usually come out ahead on the licence. Ask us to compare the total cost for your expected use.

Does the subscription renew automatically?

Yes - annually, unless you cancel it in your account before the renewal date.

Do I need SketchUp Pro to run it?

Yes - extensions run in the SketchUp desktop app, so you need Pro or Studio. Skimp runs on both PC and Mac.

Will simplifying ruin my textures?

No - Skimp preserves materials, UVs and normals through simplification, and keeps your group/component hierarchy.

How does it differ from Transmutr?

Both import and simplify. Transmutr adds render proxies and material conversion for Enscape/V-Ray pipelines; Skimp adds in-model simplification of existing geometry. Render-asset workflows lean Transmutr; general model performance leans Skimp.

Is there a trial?

Yes - a 5-day trial licence is available from the Skimp website, so you can test it on your own models before you buy. Ask us if you want a hand setting it up.
