SketchUp education licence FAQs

Is SketchUp free for students and educators?

SketchUp for Schools is free for eligible primary and secondary schools using Google Workspace for Education or Microsoft Education. Individual higher-education student and educator subscriptions are paid, discounted licences supplied through authorised education resellers.

Who qualifies for higher education licensing?

Students, instructors and administrators associated with accredited educational institutions can qualify. Primary and secondary institutions may also use higher-education offerings when SketchUp for Schools does not meet their needs.

Can an educator qualify if they do not teach design or computing?

Yes. Educators can qualify regardless of subject. The licence supports teaching, course preparation and professional development, but not commercial work.

What is included in an individual higher education subscription?

The suite includes SketchUp for Desktop, Web and iPad, LayOut, Sefaira, PreDesign, Revit Importer, Trimble Connect, 3D Warehouse, Extension Warehouse and supported viewers. V-Ray is not included.

What should a university or polytechnic buy?

University subscriptions provide admin-managed user licences. Network lab licences are device-based for shared on-site computers and carry a narrower toolset. We can confirm which deployment fits.

Can education licences be used for paid client work?

No. SketchUp education offerings are for learning, teaching and related educational work. Commercial projects require a standard subscription.
