This page gives details about Chaos Licensing for Chaos products.
Overview
Chaos products are sold under a named or a floating license.
Named licenses allow dedicated access to individual users, while floating licenses can be shared among a team of users.
Named Licenses
Named licenses provide users with dedicated access to their software from any device, allowing them to log in with their Chaos account.
A named-user license is dedicated to one specific person, giving them access to the software on any machine. One license can only be used on one device at a time.
To use your named license:
- Perform a default product installation.
- Start using your product, and you will be prompted to log in with your Chaos account.
- When you successfully log in, you can use your license.
For more information, refer to the Named Licenses page.
Floating Licenses
Floating licenses can be shared among multiple users on a first-come, first-served basis and don’t need to be assigned to an individual user.
Floating licenses are ideal for creating a pool of licenses that can be used by multiple users, who do not require dedicated access to our products.
For example, a pool of 10 floating licenses can be shared among 20 (or any number of) users. Any user can access the software at any time, as long as a license is available in the pool. The only limitation is the concurrent usage of licenses; in this case, only 10 users can use the software simultaneously. Named licenses require the number of licenses to match the number of users (e.g., 20).
Feature | Named license | Floating License |
Feature | Named license | Floating License |
Tied to a user | Yes (to a specific email address, unless reassigned) | No (shared across the organization) |
Device flexibility | Yes (any device) | Yes (any device) |
Simultaneous usage | No | No |
License sharing | No | Yes (one at a time per license seat) |
Best for | Individual users | Teams sharing licenses |
Sharing can be done in one of two ways:
- Cloud Licensing (recommended): The administrator shares a pool of Floating licenses with the Organization's Users, and when they log in with their Chaos accounts, they can use the floating licenses through the cloud from any location. See how to set it up in the Cloud Licensing section of this page.
- License Server: The administrator installs the Chaos License Server on a machine in the local network. Users will need to configure their Chaos product to connect to this License Server to access a license. This method is explained in the Installing the Product for Network Floating Licensing page.

How do I log in to use my Chaos license?
You can use your Chaos account to log in and access your Chaos product. The Chaos product will prompt you to log in as needed.
Our products require a valid license associated with a Chaos account. When you create a Chaos account, you can use it with all of our products. Your existing Enscape, V-Ray, Anima, or Veras logins are all Chaos accounts and work for all our products.
If you are an individual customer and made the purchase with us directly, the license is already associated with your account. You can start using it as soon as you log in.
If you are part of a team, your Chaos Organization administrator must invite you to the organization and provide you with access to our products.
For more information on managing your licenses in the my.chaos portal, read the articles in this section of our online documentation.
