SketchUp 2027 is here: procedural modelling, faster LayOut and AI built in

SketchUp 2027 brings procedural modelling, section hatch patterns, faster LayOut and a modernised Mac app, with AI Render, AI Assistant and the Claude connector built in.

SketchUp 2027 is now available to subscribers. This release is about modelling that keeps up with your ideas: native, non-destructive procedures in the tools you already know, so a late change becomes a quick edit instead of a rebuild from scratch. LayOut gets faster drawing exports and an infinite drafting canvas, Mac users get a modernised app with the same layout as Windows, and you can keep several models open in one window.

It also comes with SketchUp’s AI tools built in: AI Render, AI Assistant, Generate Textures and the SketchUp Connector for Claude all work in SketchUp 2027 and are included with your subscription.

AI built into SketchUp 2027

SketchUp Go, Pro and Studio subscriptions include a monthly allowance of AI credits, and SketchUp 2027 works with all of the AI tools below. Sign in to SketchUp with your Trimble ID and the tools are ready to use.

AI Render

AI Render turns a view of your model into a photoreal or stylised render from a text prompt. Pick a scene, describe the materials, lighting and mood you want, and AI Render produces an image based on your model view. It is a quick way to test a design direction with a client before you commit to a full V-Ray or Enscape render.

AI Render was previously called SketchUp Diffusion. It left SketchUp Labs and has been generally available since December 2025. It runs in SketchUp for Desktop (as a pre-installed extension), SketchUp for Web and SketchUp for iPad, and each render uses 10 AI credits. See Using AI Render in the SketchUp Help Center.

AI Assistant

AI Assistant sits inside SketchUp and does two jobs:

  • Help answers SketchUp how-to questions in the app, so you can ask how to do something without leaving your model. Help questions are free and use no credits.
  • Generate Object creates a 3D object with PBR textures from a text description or an image, ready to place in your model. Each generated object uses 30 credits.

Generate Textures

Generate Textures creates PBR material maps with AI, so you can describe a surface and get a usable material instead of searching for one.

SketchUp Connector for Claude

The SketchUp Connector for Claude links SketchUp to Claude, Anthropic’s AI assistant, for conversational modelling: you describe what you want in a conversation with Claude, and it works with your SketchUp model. You sign in with your Trimble ID and a Claude account. See SketchUp Connector for Claude for setup.

3D Warehouse also has AI-powered image search to help you find models.

Monthly AI credits by plan

100 AI credits a month with SketchUp Go
150 With Pro, Pro Scan, Pro Advanced Workflows and Pro Civil Contractor
200 With Studio and Studio for Higher Education
Free AI Assistant Help questions use no credits

Credits refresh each month and do not roll over. The free SketchUp plan has no AI credits. If you need more, Trimble sells a SketchUp AI add-on with an extra 1,500 credits a month; it is bought by card inside SketchUp directly from Trimble, not through resellers. The AI features are English-only. See AI credits for current costs per feature.

What’s new in SketchUp 2027

Procedures: edit, don’t redraw

Procedures are native, non-destructive modelling operations. Instead of baking a sweep or a boolean into raw geometry, SketchUp 2027 keeps the inputs editable, so you can turn last-minute client requests into quick edits without rebuilding.

  1. Procedural Follow Me. Get an editable sweep: change the path or the profile, and the wall, railing or moulding reconfigures live. Double-click back into the sketch to edit, and run several profiles along one path.
  2. Procedural Solid Tools. Non-destructive booleans that cut through multi-layered nested components with Solid Collections. Reverse or change an operation later in Entity Info > Controls.
  3. Procedural Copy Along. Array objects along a path, then edit the path, distribution and spacing at any time. Think of it as Follow Me for objects, without a path-array extension.
  4. Procedures that stack. Procedures share inputs, so you edit once and everything that depends on it updates.

Procedures are in SketchUp Pro and above on Desktop and Web. SketchUp Go subscribers get them in SketchUp for Web.

AutoFit Live Components

Drop a Live Component onto a face, even one with openings, and it sizes itself to fit. AutoFit works on Desktop, Web and Mobile, for Go subscribers and above.

Section Fill Hatch Patterns

Show several distinct section-cut patterns in one model and one view. Control the hatch by object, material, section plane or style, and import your own .PAT files. Available in SketchUp Pro and above on Desktop.

Faster documentation in LayOut

Speed up your drawing exports and draft on an infinite canvas in LayOut, included with SketchUp Pro and above.

Hidden Line Rendering is now multi-threaded. Trimble reports it reduces heavy scene vector rendering times by up to 85%, with faster vector PDF and DWG export.

Paperless Canvas adds Draw Mode, so you can sketch and detail at 1:1 before you choose a paper size.

Viewport Image Adjustments let you change brightness, contrast, opacity, hue and saturation on raster and hybrid viewports and imported images, non-destructively and without leaving LayOut.

A modernised Mac app and multiple documents

SketchUp and LayOut for Mac have been rebuilt on a modern framework, with the same layout as Windows, dockable toolbars and trays. If your office runs both platforms, everyone now sees the same interface. SketchUp 2027 on Mac needs Apple silicon: Intel Macs can no longer install it, so stay on SketchUp 2026 on those machines (Trimble release notes).

The new Multiple Document Interface puts open models in document tabs in one window, and you can copy and paste between them. Keep multiple models open and move between them without juggling windows.

Interoperability

  • DWG and DXF: new import and export controls for angular deviation, chordal tolerance and maximum edge length, with smooth or flat-faceted meshes.
  • IFC: support for rebar, lighting fixtures and coordinate reference systems, and import by class or layer.
  • TrimBIM (.trb): feature parity with IFC.
  • USD: updated support for .usdz, .usd, .usda and .usdc.

Revit to SketchUp, and SketchUp to Revit

The Revit Importer brings Revit models into SketchUp. It is included with SketchUp Pro Advanced Workflows, Studio and Studio for Higher Education.

Coming soon: the SketchUp Importer for Revit, a plugin that brings SketchUp models into Revit as native families. It will be available to SketchUp Pro Advanced Workflows and Studio subscribers.

Also in SketchUp 2027

  • Better organisation and filtering in Outliner.
  • A dockable Ruby Console.
  • Fog and styles in SketchUp for iPad.
  • Trimble Connect updates.
