Learn how Chaos Credits are pooled, assigned, used and refreshed, and what happens when you run out.
Credit pool
The Credit pool shows your total balance as a single number. All subscriptions and credit packs add credits to this pool.
When someone in your organisation uses a feature that consumes credits, the system takes credits from the pool, regardless of which subscription supplied them. The pool tracks each credit's source. In the All credits details view, you can see the breakdown by subscription, credit usage, expiry date and refresh date.
Named credits and Shared pool
Users can access credits in the pool in two ways:
1. Named credits
Named credits are reserved for a specific user. When you buy a named licence or an admin assigns one to you in My Chaos, you get a personal allowance that no one else can use. Your Named credits refresh each month on the subscription's billing date.
- Only the user assigned to the seat can use these credits.
- Credits refresh monthly on the subscription's billing date.
- Named credits suit anyone who needs a guaranteed monthly allowance.
2. Shared pool
Any user in your organisation can use credits from the Shared pool.
Admins can set a quota for each user, called a credit limit, to control how much they can use from the pool.
- Any user in the organisation can use these credits.
- Credits refresh monthly on each subscription's billing date. Credit limits reset monthly on the day they were set.
- The Shared pool suits teams that share workloads, occasional users and organisations whose AI usage varies.
- All users start with unlimited access to the Floating pool. Admins can set credit limits for individual users. See Managе Users and Credit Limits for details.
Enterprise options
How credits are used
When you use a feature that consumes credits, the system takes credits in this order:
- The system uses your Named credits first if you have a Named licence.
- Once your Named allowance runs out, the system uses Shared pool credits from Floating subscriptions and packages.
- After monthly credits run out, the system uses Shared pool credits from Enterprise pool subscriptions.
Within each tier, the system uses credits closest to expiry first, so credits you could have used do not expire unused.
Refresh cycles
Each subscription's monthly allowance refreshes on the day of the month it was purchased. If your organisation has multiple subscriptions, each adds credits to the pool on its own schedule.
What happens when you run out
You can run out of credits in two ways:
- The organisation's pool runs out of credits. Anyone trying to use a feature is blocked until the next refresh or an admin adds credits.
- You reach the credit limit your admin has set for you. Even if the pool still has credits, you cannot use more until your limit resets or your admin raises it.
In either case, a message appears. Click Request credits to email your admin.
See Usе credits for details.
Mid-cycle subscription upgrades
If you upgrade to a higher subscription tier during a billing cycle, the system prorates the difference between the old and new tiers for the remaining days. It adds those credits to the pool immediately. The full new allowance applies from the next refresh.
Renewals and cancellations
- After a successful renewal, all credit allowances, refresh dates and user assignments continue without interruption.
- When a subscription is cancelled, it stops adding credits to the pool.
- Refund requests are declined if any subscription credits have already been used.
