Overview

Enscape does not officially support running on virtual machines. Enscape needs direct control of the graphics hardware, and fast response times. The approach of T4, P4, A10, or GRID cards to exchange data via PCI Express is not reliably accessible for Enscape via Vulkan.

Enscape has not been tested on virtualization or server-based graphics cards such as the NVIDIA A Series, TESLA, or GRID Series. We cannot actively provide assistance in a support case, if you are using these graphics cards. However, if you must run Enscape on a Virtual Desktop, we recommend the following basic troubleshooting steps:

  • The GPU’s need to visualize other components within the virtual environment (for example, the browser and additional applications) significantly increases VRAM usage. We recommend allocating 8–12 GB of VRAM per Enscape user.
  • The following settings should be disabled and remain off to avoid crashes, excessive memory usage, and other anomalous behavior:
    • Ray-Traced Sun Shadows
    • NVIDIA Shadow Denoiser
    • Hardware-Accelerated Ray-Tracing
    • Ray-Traced Artificial Light
    • NVIDIA DLSS
  • You should also reduce the size of textures or assets to avoid performance issues.
  • Remove or hide any tessellated geometry, such as pipes, wiring/cables, and unnecessary furniture.
  • Users should only use Medium quality and switch to High quality only when final renders are completed to avoid crashes.
  • If using Revit, section boxes should be used when possible.

Even if the above steps are implemented, we cannot guarantee that Enscape works properly within your virtual environment. We recommend that you utilize a workstation that meets our system requirements.

If you’re having trouble with the mouse input on your VDI system, please try to activate the Enable Relative Mouse option (Options > Enable Relative Mouse) in your VMware Horizon client. For more information, see the Omnissa product documentation. This option is unavailable in the WebClient.
