Installing SketchUp

First, download the installation file for your operating system. We recommend having the most current drivers installed for your graphics card(s) and a quick check to see if your computer meets our System Requirements.You don't need to delete previous versions of SketchUp before installing or updating.

After downloading the installation file for your operating system, you are ready to install SketchUp on your device. You don't need to delete previous versions of SketchUp before installing or updating.

Windows Installation Instructions

  1. Open the downloaded Installer file as an Administrator. You may see a security prompt and will need to give SketchUp permission to make changes (install) on your computer.
  2. When the installation window opens, you'll see a list of products available to install including two SketchUp Studio features, Scan Essentials and Revit Importer.

  3. To change what language you want to use, click Change... next to Install Languages.
  4. Click Change... next to the Destination Directory to change where you want to install your SketchUp files.
  1. Click Install. A window will appear helping you keep track of your installation progress
  2. Once you see the "SketchUp is Ready to Go!" message, the installation is complete. You can click the SketchUp logo to launch SketchUp right away, or click Finish to close out the installer.
  3. (Optional) Restart your computer.

MacOS Installation Instructions

Before installing SketchUp, make sure you're logged into your computer as a user who has Administrator privileges.

  1. Close any open versions of SketchUp, Layout, and StyleBuilder.
  1. Locate and double-click on the .dmg file. This will mount the installer drive and opens the installation window.
  2. Dragging and dropping the SketchUp folder in the Applications folder copies the application to your computer.
  3. A progress bar appears as the files are copied. When complete, SketchUp is installed and can be opened from your applications folder.

Activating SketchUp Pro

Note: Each product license is intended for use by a single named user, a real person using their first name, last name, and email address, for the duration of the subscription term. The person using a license must match the person assigned to that license when purchasing or renewing a subscription.

Checking Your System

If you are having issues while using SketchUp, but aren’t sure what is causing them, you may want to check your system for compatibility issues. The good news is that you can do this with utilities already available as part of your operating system.

Digital Signature is Invalid or Missing

SketchUp has a digital signature imprint from Verisign, so if you receive a message that there is an invalid digital signature or no digital signature, the likely cause is that installation file was corrupted during download. In that case, clear your browser's cache, and then try the download again.
