This page provides a quick starting point on how to import files, particularly .vrscene files, in Enscape Envision.

Overview

In Envision, importing a file doesn't embed it directly into your project - instead, it links the file. The content of the linked file remains connected to the original source file. Linked files can exist in multiple versions, and you can easily switch between them through Envision's user interface while preserving any overrides or adjustments you've made. This linking mechanism allows for a flexible, non-destructive workflow. Envision supports linking for a variety of formats, including .vrscene, .vrmesh, .fbx, .obj, and .dae.

From the linked file's Details panel, you also have the option to embed (or 'bake') the file into the project when needed.

Linking or referencing an external file keeps the content connected to the original source file. This setup allows you to reload any changes by updating the linked file or reloading the Envision project. Keep in mind that the original file should not be deleted.

You can link .vrscene, .vrmesh, .fbx, .obj, and .dae files only.

To link an external file:

  • Click File menu > Import and browse for a suitable file.

Embed Files

When embedding, all objects from the external file are imported directly into your project. Once the import is complete, you can delete the original file without affecting the project. The imported objects are organized into a dedicated folder located in the Objects tab on the left-hand side of the interface.

You can embed .vrscene, .fbx, .obj, and .dae files only.

To embed an external file:

  • Select a linked scene file.
  • Click the Embed scene () button. This opens a warning dialog informing you that the action cannot be reverted.
  • Click Embed.

To revert the embedding of an external file, either press Ctrl+Z on your keyboard or go to Edit menu > Undo.
