Scatter Objects on Surface

To scatter an object onto a surface follow these steps:

  • Click the Scatter () toolbar button or go to the Create menu and select the Scatter option.
  • Pick a surface or multiple surfaces to scatter the objects on. Click Done in the top toolbar when ready.
  • To add more surfaces, go to the Targets tab and click Add new objects for the scattering. Pick the object in the viewport or in the Objects tab (left-hand side panel).
  • In the Layers tab, click on New Layer to expand it and access the Models field for this layer.
  • Click the Asset library toolbar button to open the Cosmos library in the left panel.
  • Pick a Cosmos asset and drag it into the Models field of the Scatter layer. Pick as many assets as you like. You can delete the extra ones with the Remove () tool.
  • Adjust the Density and Max angle to up vector values. If necessary, specify exclusion areas in the Exclusion areas tab as well – they can be geometry or paths.

To scatter an object onto lines follow these steps:

  • Click the Scatter () toolbar button or go to the Create menu and select the Scatter option.
  • Pick a path or multiple paths to scatter the objects on. Click Done in the top toolbar when ready.
  • To add more paths, go to the Targets tab and click Add new objects for the scattering. Pick the path in the viewport or from the Objects tab.
  • In the Layers tab of the Scatter object, click on New Layer to expand it and access the Models field for this layer.
  • Click the Asset library toolbar button to open the Cosmos library in the left panel.
  • Pick a Cosmos asset and drag it into the Models field of the Scatter layer. Pick as many assets as you like. You can delete the extra ones with the Remove () tool.
  • Adjust the distribution parameters. If necessary, specify exclusion areas in the Exclusion areas tab too – they can be geometry or paths.

Edit Scattered Objects

Once Cosmos models are scattered onto a surface or line, individual instances can be further modified – such as adjusting their position, rotation, or scale – to better fit the desired layout. To edit individual instances:

  • Select the Scatter object and navigate to its Models section in the Layers tab.
  • Click the Edit individual instances button to enter edit mode in the viewport.
  • Select a scattered instance in the viewport. Hold Ctrl to select multiple instances.
  • Adjust the position, rotation, or scale of the selected instances as needed.
  • Click Done when finished.
