Using shortcuts is a great way to model efficiently, and SketchUp’s default shortcuts can help you get started.

If you want to create or edit your own custom shortcuts, see Creating and Editing Shortcuts. If you are on Windows, you can export your custom shortcuts and import them later, or even share them with others.

You can create and edit shortcuts in the Shortcuts section of Preferences. There are a few limitations to what you can do with shortcuts, so here are some guidelines to help you understand what you can and can’t do:

Dialog Boxes and Trays

Dialog Boxes and TraysSketchup organizes available features into modeless dialog boxes. Modeless dialog boxes help keep many SketchUp features, like Materials and Styles, easy to access while modeling.In MacOS, dialog boxes appear as independent windows that can be moved around the modeling window as needed.

Entity Context Menus

SketchUp’s context menus offer different options depending on what type of entity you are working with. Knowing what’s available when you context click an entity can help you skip a few clicks and model with better precision. Note: Not all context menu options will be available for every entity of the same type.
